I worked as a Producer and 1st Assistant Director on two short films, Flat Rat and Got the Spirit. As a producer, I learnt a lot about the importance of work ethic and persevering even with difficult obstacles thrown at me. I worked closely alongside the director/co-producer and learnt how to collaborate effectively especially in the pre production stage. As my first time Assistant directing, I gained a lot of knowledge on how to run a cast and crew on set. I improved my communication skills particularly with managing a larger crew. I have gained skills and knowledge from working on these films that I hope show through within the final product and hope to continue using these abilities and learning more as I enter into the New Zealand film industry.
When amateur DJ Dan dies unexpectedly, his girlfriend Paris is secretly relieved she never had to break up with him. Unfortunately, Dan returns as a ghost — believing his unfinished business is to fix their relationship, the last thing Paris needs. Got the Spirit is a dramedy about conflict avoidance, embarrassing boyfriends, and how romance in your 20s collides with identity. Sometimes, an exorcism feels easier than talking about your feelings…
Based on a true story, Flat Rat is a 11min dark comedy about three flatmates who have their bond tested when they’re pressured into killing a rat. This film tells a silly and grim story about friendship, social responsibility, and growing up. Through the laughs, we want to make you squirm, provide a sense of perspective, and remind everybody to find joy in the rat’s nest.
