Interviews of the key creatives behind the Third Year, Major Project 'Stuck In A Hard Place'.
G'day, My name is Jesse Garratt. I am a graduating screen arts student interested in Directing, Production Sound, and Sound Mixing.
Picture of me on set of my major project 'Stuck In A Hard Place', looking exhausted and stressed.
Bachelor of Screen Arts
I worked as the Director and Writer on my primary short film, Stuck In a Hard place;
I also worked as the Sound recordist/Boom Operator on two other short films, Away With The Faeries, and Still Blue. Working across multiple projects allowed me to expand my knowledge around my favourite roles: Directing, Writing, and Production/Post Sound.
I have learnt so much about myself and the industry I hope to join next year.
Stuck in a Hard Place is a live-action, coming-of-age drama following the tumultuous relationship between father and son. Two men find themselves alone together on a hike in the idyllic New Zealand bush, and the cracks in their relationship start to show. When their trip takes an unexpected turn for the worst, the son realises he must resolve their conflict or risk losing his father forever.
'Still Blue' tells the story of an attentive middle-aged man, William Daihbis, visiting his Mother in an elderly care Dementia unit over the course of her final year of life. The film explores the challenges that a disease like Alzheimer's has on what was once a tight-knit family of two and denotes the themes of whether or not it's worth the hardship/stress that it takes to continue the relationship.
