For the major project “Wizard Mischief” written and directed by Baxter Gray I was the Gaffer. As the head of department for lighting, it was my role to set up the lights how the director asked for each set up ,while also giving my own ideas and suggestions around how the lights looked. I was very excited to be on lighting for this project as a lot of the magic is shown through the lighting, whether it be the metaphysical spaces the characters inhabit or the glinting of a potion in the sun. The stylised lighting had me very excited. Over the course of the shoot I used mainly three lights, an Orca, a Lumix and a Nova. We also had a spotlight for the graveyard shoot but this mostly became general set lighting so people didn't fall down the hill.

I am very proud of the work I did for this shoot. All of the shots look stunning, both because of the cinematography and the lighting. There are shots of blood soaked forks where the light glints of the blood that just look beautiful and quite gruesome. Learned alot about the best places to put certain lights, whether they are needed as a fill, spot or back light. I also just got to fiddle with the gear as well, getting more accustomed to the lights.

Wizard Mischief is an absurdist, neo-gothic short film about wizards, imps and fairies. It follows Lucy, a cruel and impulsive wizard, as she is followed by mischievous imps and culminates with a confrontation with the Fairy Queen over the grave of her mother.
