Ripple is an educational card game in which players learn about phytoplankton’s roles on our planet and how climate change is affecting these roles.
Players win by building a full trophic pyramid with Marine Life Cards.
Each player has one Pyramid Board, and each trophic level is distinguished by colour.
Players pick up Action Cards which feature natural and climate change conditions that affect phytoplankton and the rest of the trophic pyramid.

Ripple is a game-based science communication resource about the importance of phytoplankton. It aims to educate children aged 12–14 about its contribution to our planet, and how climate change is affecting it. The game introduces local marine species and their te reo Māori names. This project demonstrates how design can make a difference by communicating important issues currently affecting our living-world.
