Sprout Squad features a suite of hero characters. These characters narrate our journals, immersing tamariki into the world of Sprout Squad.
Our journals feature interactive pages—this includes pop up maps and character cards. This boosts curiosity, encouraging tamariki to discover what there is to learn.
We mocked up one spread of the teacher journal, to illustrate how it parallels the kids' journal.
Bachelor of Design with Honours
Sprout Squad is a gardening initiative for tamariki aged 5–9. It takes the form of journals and a hypothetical greenhouse van. Each year group would receive their own journal — we created one Year 3 journal, to demonstrate how it works.
The kids' journals introduce a range of gardening activities, while the teacher journals provide plans for each activity. Our project nurtures tamariki’s curiosity for the outdoors by learning through play.
