Projection through 'sound lamps' within the sonic portals

Sound lamps' projecting shadow patterns made by sand vibrating to the stream's frequencies

Of the once-vibrant soundscapes of Wellington’s streams, 95.5% are now shadowy echoes in underground pipes. This project imagines how a series of sonic portals, situated along the route of Island Bay’s Paekawakawa stream, might allow us to listen to the voice of the stream as it undergoes a transition from piped to daylit. ‘Sound lamps’ create immersive auditory and visual experiences, amplifying the returning vitality of the stream and her aquatic inhabitants.
