Master of Māori Visual Arts
My kaupapa speaks to wairākau in relation to the cyclic nature of all things within a whare onerua context. I see my kaitiaki role as being the artist who nurtures the cycle of koha between tangata and Papatūānuku, Papatūānuku and tangata. I present the whakapapa of hangarua and provenance of para to reflect the importance of reciprocity to te taiao. Wairākau as the process of gifting new life to para, onerua is feeding back into the whare and in turn the whenua and beyond.
