Melorest. The solution for side sleeping
Bachelor of Design with Honours
I have designed a sleep eye mask for side sleepers by reducing the negative impact of light disturbances that cause sleep loss, to improve the user's circadian rhythm and sleep quality.
I chose this topic to highlight the importance of sleep as sleeping is essential in maintaining the well-being of a person's brain function, which can impact focus and alertness throughout daily tasks.
In my research, I learned that light disturbances at night blocks the melatonin production, by tricking the brain into thinking it is still daytime. The brain reacts by not allowing us to get quality sleep; instead, it will try to make us sleep less to ensure we are safe. This drove my project to design a mask that will effectively block out light. Through surveys and user testing in my primary research, I was able to pinpoint other grey areas and pain points for further design opportunities. From there I was able to form a design criteria which gave me attributes I needed to incorporate into my final design.
