In 2022, Wellington Regional Hospital's Intensive Care Unit used more than 12,700 medication vials. Proper recycling of these vials requires the separation of metal caps from their glass bottles with current removal methods using makeshift tools which cause injuries and hand strain. Cap Snap, a purpose-built tool, was proposed by the hospital's Improvement & Innovation team to address this issue. It aids in opening ampoules and decapping metal caps from IV medications like Panadol and Propofol, facilitating safe and efficient recycling.
