Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours
I am a Japanese-Pākehā, queer, and disabled artist who creates worlds as a way to understand myself in relation to others. My practice references shodō calligraphy, rituals centring embodiment, and non-amatonormative ways of relating (i.e. resisting the assumption that a monogamous, romantic, and sexual relationship is normal and desired by everyone). This project explores the intersections between gender, culture, and what it means to exist in a queer space.
