Charging. compiles a series of works examining Nietzsche’s idea of ‘eternal return’, reflecting my German cultural identity, and learnings about Aotearoa.
Concerned by current global political developments, the work escalates in ridiculous tenacity and rebellious care for objects deemed disposable: matches. The silence of transgenerational trauma is introduced by the ubiquitous wallpaper, ‘Rauhfaser’. Cheap and robust, the material covers domestic German walls and ceilings since the 1920’s, successfully muffling memories.
