Grounded in customary Māori weaving techniques, my work is an embodiment of specific pūrākau and histories through contemporary forms. This work retells the interwoven whakapapa of Ngāti Koata and Ngāti Kuia, using whatu, tukutuku, and pokinikini methods. It is a story of migration, warfare, peace and settlement. Created from harakeke, kiekie and muka, "Tatau Pounamu" explores the remarkable and enduring history of Ngāti Kuia and Ngāti Koata.
