Capturing Engkanto Documentary Poster
Bachelor of Screen Arts
I was the director, editor and producer of Capturing Engkanto. This project helped me focus on the relationship between documentarian and subject, while exploring personal history, identity and representation of diaspora within Aotearoa. Collaborating with the artist and engaging in their artistic processes allowed me to adapt both practical and technical skills across a range of mediums like photography and film. These skills will aid my contributions in future projects and roles that I participate in to present unique and engaging narratives for aspiring creatives.
Capturing their magical memories of Encantadia, artist and photographer, Jas Sabrine shares their experience as a Filipino diaspora living in Aotearoa and the inspiration for their project; ‘Engkanto: Folktales of an Enchanted Kind’.
Capturing Engkanto is a short documentary which follows Jas Sabrine, a first generation immigrant, who has been completing a Bachelor’s in Fine Art at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand.
